Buying from an Indian wholesaler and importing Korean skincare directly are different operating choices. Compare who handles the import process, what stock commitment you need, the complete cost and the time to receive usable goods. An overseas unit price alone does not settle the decision.

Define the two buying arrangements
With a domestic wholesale purchase, you buy from a business supplying you within India under its written quotation and fulfilment terms. With a direct-import arrangement, goods move into India from an overseas seller and importing responsibilities must be assigned. Ask who is the importer and who is accountable for each stage.
A supplier’s location does not tell you every responsibility. An India-facing website could arrange an overseas shipment, while a domestic supplier may sell stock already held in India. Confirm the goods’ location and the actual fulfilment route rather than inferring them from the company’s marketing.
Compare responsibility before comparing price
For an import, identify the party handling product eligibility, required registrations and documentation, customs clearance, labelling, transport and destination delivery. India’s CDSCO publishes information on the registration framework for imported cosmetics. Check the current official cosmetics guidance for the proposed products and arrangement.
DGFT also provides official Importer Exporter Code guidance. Requirements depend on the transaction and applicable rules. Before paying an overseas seller, get qualified advice on your actual import arrangement instead of relying on a supplier’s general assurance that shipping is included.
Build two complete cost sheets
For domestic buying, record quoted product cost, applicable tax treatment, freight, any handling charge and total payable. For importing, identify product cost, currency conversion, bank charges, overseas transport, insurance where applicable, clearance, duties and taxes, documentation-related costs and final delivery. Use verified quotes for the specific shipment.
Keep cash paid separate from accounting treatment and potential credits. Do not apply a generic duty percentage or assume a preferential rate. Compare the delivered, usable goods on the same basis with help from your accountant or customs professional where needed.
Compare minimums and the range you can buy
Ask each seller about minimum invoice value, quantities per SKU, brand mixing and carton requirements. Direct supply does not automatically mean a better minimum, and domestic wholesale does not automatically mean unlimited mixing. The relevant answer is the one written for your proposed order.
A business testing several categories may value a mixed range more than the lowest theoretical unit cost. A business with established demand may be able to plan a deeper order. Use your own sales evidence, cash position and storage capacity to decide how much stock to commit.
Compare the entire timeline
Ask when stock becomes available, when payment is due, when dispatch occurs and how transit is estimated. For an import, add the documentation and clearance stages to the plan. For a domestic purchase, distinguish stock confirmation from actual dispatch and delivery.
Do not promise your customers a launch date from an estimated shipping duration alone. Ask how delays, missing documents, substitutions and damaged goods are handled, and which party communicates progress at each stage.
A practical route-selection checklist
- Can the available range meet our customers’ requirements?
- Can we meet the minimums without excessive stock?
- Do we understand the complete cost and cash exposure?
- Is every importing or fulfilment responsibility assigned?
- Do we have the documentation needed for our selling channel?
- Can our launch or restock tolerate the confirmed timeline?
Zosmetics offers a domestic wholesale enquiry process: receive inventory and prices by email, choose products, and obtain a formal quotation. Its published minimum is ₹50,000 after discounts including GST, with six units per SKU and mixed brands allowed. Availability is confirmed with the quotation; marketplace authorisation is not provided.
Use the supplier-selection guide for vendor checks and the quotation-comparison guide for consistent arithmetic.
Frequently asked questions
Is direct importing always cheaper?
It depends on the complete arrangement, quantities and costs. Compare verified delivered costs rather than a foreign unit price with a domestic invoice total.
Does an Indian wholesaler provide marketplace permission?
Not automatically. Confirm the relevant channel requirements. Zosmetics does not provide marketplace brand authorisation.
